Vision Notebooks

During the last years, Jean Hirtzel dedicated himself daily to his vision notebooks. This work is for him a way of letting go. The simplicity of the tools gives him total freedom and represents one of his research’s essential points : to express a maximum with a minimum of effects. These notebooks are for the artist both a research area and, in their modesty, an accomplishment.

He uses various techniques (ink, watercolour and crayon) that he mixes in certain works. More and more, his preference is for colour pencils, generally used with water. He lets himself go with the movement of lead mine on paper, dilutes the tones with water and goes back over certain materials with pencil. The vision notebooks are notebooks of his interior voyages.
